Richard Mermelstein, MD

With a relentless passion for using his medical expertise to help as many people as he can, Dr Mermelstein has worked across different types of medicine (inpatient hospital, rehab, and outpatient primary care). He draws upon these experiences to partner with his patients, developing both prevention & treatment plans that make sense to each patient based on their unique beliefs and values. He exudes warmth in every patient interaction, believing that active listening and understanding are paramount in making sure the patient is treated effectively. Dr Mermelstein’s patients describe him as warm, engaging, humorous, dedicated and someone who is very approachable and truly interested in what they have to say and who they are.

After completing his internal medicine residency at Northwell, Dr Mermelstein launched his medical career as a hospitalist, caring for hospitalized patients at Long Island Jewish and Forest Hills (Northwell). He then worked at Parker Jewish Institute for Healthcare & Rehabilitation. While caring for patients at Northwell, Dr Mermelstein was acknowledged as a “Top 5 Lowest Mortality Rate Physicians” for saving the most lives at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Prior to joining Primary PartnerCare Physicians, he worked as an outpatient primary care physician in Manhasset & Plainview.

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Mermelstein enjoys travelling and exploring new cultures. He also enjoys sports, hiking, swimming, weightlifting, as well as cooking, and of course his mischievous and adorable Sheepadoodle dog, Penny.

Dr. Mermelstein is fluent in both English and Spanish.
